The Unveiled Self

April 30, 2025

How often it is that you go too far,
Batter yourself to a pulp of scars
The pressure we feel seems self-inflicted,
A condition that leaves the mind conflicted.
You carry this weight, and it does define,
It hinders you from revealing your shine.
Subject to the imperfection of men,
A fatal flaw to be a creature that yearns.
More than the shadow that casts the doubt,
Great is the thought which from this sprouts.
Every moment of loss that tears
Should instead be used to overcome fear.
A barrow raised as an ode of shame
Should not be what we to ourselves proclaim.
This world isn’t perfect, so neither are you,
And on this walk, there’s a cost for a view.
But breathe in deep, release the strain,
Know that nothing you do is in vain.
The earth will revolve, and the sun will shine,
You’ll light up again, and it’ll all align.
Embracing flaws, as there’s nothing to miss,
In place of a brawl, you render a kiss.
We speak to you from our insight,
You’re a masterpiece when you stand in the light.

Note: In self-acceptance, what flaws define your masterpiece?

Richard Onwuasor

Richard is a young man who spent his formative years in Nigeria. He found a love for the arts from his parents, who encouraged his writing skills and would often buy him books to read in hopes of building his love for reading and pushing him forward academically. He always leaned toward the visual arts side, though, but in recent years, during his more low moments, he found himself writing more—a habit he picked up from a friend. He’s now a university student, trying his best to make something of himself.
